If you believe your ancestors came from Faaberg or Lillehammer here in Norway, you are welcome to contact me and I will try to identify the individual(s), using the
information you have. If your ancestors were born in Faaberg or Lillehammer the chances that they are in my database is quite good. Hopefully I will be able to answer all inquiries, but expect some time to pass before you receive an answer.
To make it possible for me to identify your ancestors, it is of great importance that you supply good enough information about the emigrated person(s). Information like "Ole Olson probably born in Faaberg around 1860" is not good enough to even consider looking for him. You need something more unless your person has a very special name. Believe me, that is not likely. Most names are very common and usually there are many individuals with the same name. I do not have access to sources of information outside of Norway. Hence, it is of great importance that you do your 'homework' and collect as much information as possible about your ancestors before you contact me.
What I need is, of course, the person's name and at least the year of birth; if you have a complete date that would be the best. Other names (both names of persons and places, farms) connected to the person could be of great help. Of course, the names of the parents or siblings would be important information too. If you have old books (like Bibles) with personal notes, or old papers (like certificates) from Norway, these very often contain information of vital importance about the family's origin. If you are not capable of reading the old handwriting yourself (not unusual), you may scan them and e-mail them to me. Here I must point out that I do not have the capacity to engage in a large scale tracing of ancestors and relatives either because of insufficient information or because it turns out they came from another area. If the persons are in my database I have them, if they are not then I do not have them.
